Welcome to our new website
As you may have noticed, we’ve given our website a bit of a facelift. In addition to the new site being easier to read and navigate, it is also much easier for us to update. This means that we will be able to add fresh news and information about the Altarena on a regular basis. All updates will be posted to our homepage just below the current show information. You can also click on any of the “Recent Posts” links in the sidebar to the left.
Even though a lot of work has gone into the new site, there’s still much work left to do. We have a lot of archival information about past shows and Altarena history which we’ll be adding to the site in the weeks and months to come. We’ll also be announcing our 2008 season soon, and will add information about the very exciting line-up of shows we have planned.
Keep checking back often, and feel free to leave comments below.

Hello!
Love the new website – looks great! I’d love to know who’s in the cast for Urinetown – something that doesn’t seem to be on the information blurb about the show…
-Mary
Your new web site is great. I have been a subscriber for many years (since the 70’s) and have enjoyed all but a few performances. However, I was very sorry to see “Urinetown” in this years season. Even so, I did subscribe knowing I would not attend. I walked out of ACT’s performance because I found all of it very distasteful. I’ve travelled throughout Europe and many other countries where there is a charge but I don’t find it anything “to sing about”. Apparently I’m in the minority. Waiting to see what next season brings.
All the best,
Viola Garrison
Why isn’t the cast list posted anywhere…or am I just missing it? Would love to know who’s in Urinetown. Looking forward to seeing it.
Pat
The new look is clean, but I miss lots of features, like looking back at past show history. Also, I like to see the casts listed for each show. Do you still do “Actors Benefits”? That’s important and should be advertised prominently. Thanks, Ellen.
Thanks for all of the feedback!
The Urinetown cast list is now online, along with some additional information about the show. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding more information about our past (and future) shows. The website was rebuilt from scratch, and rebuilding all of the old pages will take some time.
As for the “Actor Benefits”, we’ve recently moved to providing a flat stipend for our actors, so we will no longer be designating Actor Benefit performances.
How can I change my password? As a season ticket holder, how do I request reserved seating?
Hi Nancy -
You can change your password by logging into your account and then clicking the “Contact Info” tab. The first item on that page is a “change password” button.
All of our seating at the Altarena is general admission, meaning that there are no reserved seats. We do hold the center section of the house just for for subscribers (season ticket holders), and we seat subscribers prior to seating single ticket holders, but even within this section there are no reserved seats.
That said, we will hold seats for disabled patrons when requested. The Altarena is accessible to people with wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches. If someone in your party is disabled, you can indicate that when making your reservation either online or by phone. Online, there’s a pull-down menu labeled “Special seating needs or requests” where you can choose which type of special seating you require. By phone, just be sure to mention to the reservation agent that you will require special assistance with seating. Please note that we can’t guarantee any *specific* seats to our disabled patrons.
I hope this answers your questions.
I love that Altarena is doing new shows- Last Five Years, Godmother, Urinetown in addition to the “tried and true” It brings in a new audience and new perspectives.
One question- can you reserve comps on-line -that I wasnt able to do but could be me
Also , look forward to the Archives of old shows, casts and pics and is there the history of Altarena anywhere
Hi Charles – Comp tickets cannot be reserved online. Please call our box office at 510-523-1553.
Hello to the Altarena gang!
I use to do shows with Altarena back in the 80’s. A month or so ago I found this site and also found a picture of me in a production of “Anything Goes”. What a blast to see that picture! But I came back today and don’t see the old photos anymore…how sad. Please reconsider posting these old photos.
By the way…I am planning a trip back home in December. Are you dark that month because of the holidays?
Oops! My bad! I found the pictures! Just didn’t dig enough the first time! YEAH!!
where are the pics- cant find them
Charles – The photos can be found by clicking any of the “recent photos” in the left sidebar, or by clicking the new “photos” link along the top navigation bar.
Hello Rae – The Altarena will be presenting Ron Lytle’s original holiday musical “The Man Who Saved Christmas” from November 30 through December 16, 2007. Watch this space for more information soon.
Thanks so much for the info. I will definetly be attending the show while I am back home! I’m very excited to see my old “stompin’ grounds”!
Urinetown is the best musical this season… no doubt about it! Come and see it, you will be blown away. The talent is amazing and the overall production is hilarious… don’t miss it!
hi-when is the 2008 shows and dates being announced
Very soon, Charles. Very soon.
Hi There,
I’m very excited to see Urintown tonight with my son, however; I’m not familiar with the area and we’re wondering if there are any good restaurants nearby???
Most Theatres that I’ve been to have included a “what’s nearby” link listing restaurants, etc. within walking distance. Just a suggestion!
I understand that ordering tickets online is secure, but I never made it that far since setting up a new account is not secure. It should be since it requires you to create a password. Until that happens I will not be ordering online.
Hi Bruce – Thanks for the comment. It just so happens that we’re rolling out an update to the ticketing system that addresses your concerns. Check back soon.
I absolutely loved Urinetown! Super cast!! I am inspired to audition for future shows! Any estimate as to when auditions for Chicago will happen? November? December?
Suzie – Auditions for Chicago have been announced. See here.
I do love the new website. Much easier to get around. Do you know when individual dates will be available for the 2008 season? We have a large group and I’d love to be able to lock in some particular dates. Thanks – Maggi
Maggi – Individual shows will go on sale in December. We’ll post an announcement on this site when they’re available. If you’re buying for a large group (12 or more), please call our box office at 510-523-1553 and ask to speak with someone about group sales.
Thanks
