Please be prepared to sing 16-32 bars of one uptempo song and one ballad. Bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. We prefer that you NOT prepare songs from Chicago. Come prepared to dance.

Rehearsals: Jan 13 - March 6, 2008. Weeknights and weekends.

Performances: March 7 - April 12. Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00, Sundays at 2:00.

Non-AEA.

Stipend: $20 per performance weekend ($120 total).

Location: Altarena Playhouse, 1409 High Street, Alameda. [Map]

Principals:

  • Velma Kelly – A flashy murderess, and Vaudeville performer. Her story is being overshadowed by the newly arrived Roxie.
    Voice - Alto

    Roxie Hart – Naive murderess, but she is learning the ropes and wants to be a “star” but she is an opportunist and is pretty crafty, and quickly learns how to manipulate everyone to get her way. Will do anything to become a star.
    Voice - Mezzo

    Amos Hart – Roxie’s gullible husband
    Voice - Baritone

    Billy Flynn – The wheeler dealer lawyer, who works the media to get Roxie and Velma out of jail. “slick” and “flashy” Voice - Baritone

    Mama Morton – The crooked Matron of the Cook County Jail
    Voice - Alto

    Mary Sunshine – A soft hearted newspaper reporter. Played by a male in good drag.
    Voice - Alto

Ensemble:

  • Master of Ceremonies

    Fred Casely – Roxie’s lover. She murders him in the first scene.

    Sergeant Fogarty – Investigates Fred Casely’s murder

    Liz , Annie, June, Mona – Convicts at Cook County Jail

    Hunyak – Hungarian Convict. She is innocent.

    Martin Harrison – The prosecuting attorney in Roxie’s trial.

    Go to Hell Kitty – The new murderess on the block

    Aaron – Hunyak’s lawyer

    The Judge – Presides over Roxie’s case

    Foreman, Bandleader, Doctor, Clerk , etc.
