Character breakdown (all roles are available):

Norman Thayer, Jr. - Male Actor from 40 to 80
At age 79 is flirting with senility and knows it. A glib, dry, and sharp wit. Crusty, but not truly mean spirited.

Ethel Thayer - Female Actress from 40 to 80
Norman’s wife. At age 69 is still filled with energy and optimism. A woman with a calm strength.

Charlie Martin - Male actor from 30 to 45
A life-long family friend in his 40s. A laugher with rustic charm. Often this laughter hides his disappointment with the path his life has taken.

Chelsea Thayer Wayne - Female actress from 30 to 40
Chelsea Thayer Wayne: Norman and Ethel’s only child, a divorcee in her 40s. She has not yet dealt with her bitterness towards her father.

Bill Ray - Male actor from 30 to 40
A pleasant divorced dentist in his 40s. The man in Chelsea’s life. A little stiff, but a nice man.

Billy Ray
Bill’s 13-year-old son. A bit awkward but eager, bright and flippant. His bravado comes not from a sense of entitlement, but from a sense of loneliness.

On Golden Pond is a classic American comedy/drama that’s every bit as touching, warm, and witty today as when it debuted on Broadway in 1979. Retired couple Ethel and Norman Thayer spend every summer at their home on Golden Pond. This year, their adult daughter visits, bringing along her 13-year-old son. The turbulent relationship between father and daughter, the generation gap between young and old, and the difficulties facing a couple in the twilight years of a long marriage, all combine to give this play a unique insight into the modern family.
